What Sets Us Apart?
What sets us apart from other Missions, Parishes and Religious? In two words, St Francis.
St Francis and St Clare provided an alternative way for their contemporaries to live out the gospel. Rather than starting from the perspective of humans as sinners, they started from the perspective that, created in the image and likeness of God, we are, as God is, good!
They focused on the connectedness of nature; how the tiniest insect to the most beautiful sunset to humans and plants all reflect the Creator. This recognition instilled a strong sense of humility and responsibility for all creation, among their followers. Contrary to how they were brought up, they associated with all levels of society and felt a strong kinship with the poor. They preached non-attachment to ideas as well as things. They embraced those with whom others felt uncomfortable.
We continue this tradition today. How? We live out the gospel in solidarity with the poor, the infirmed, that society misunderstands or under-appreciates. Our campus reflects our love of creation. Our work is done with compassion and joy and a spirit of welcome to all. We educate and provide spiritual formation and ministry opportunities. We live out the gospel as best we can in a desire to help create a world filled with goodness, joy, and peace.
