This lecture will explore how the story of the Passion of Jesus has been represented throughout art history, highlighting works from the Mission San Luis Rey collection. Our central focus is The Deposition of the Cross, a triptych produced in the 1800s after Peter Paul Rubens’s masterpiece of the same name, currently on temporary display in the Mission church.
