"The Arts of the Missions of Northern New Spain: 1600-1821"
Among the works on loan from OMSLR to the exhibition are a polychrome wooden sculpture of the “Immaculate Conception” and a vestment made of hand embroidered white silk satin used by Fr. Antonio Peyri. At 8' x 10', "The Last Judgment," one of the largest extant oil paintings on canvas produced for Franciscan missions in Alta California, has elicited significant scholarly interest and will be included in the last scheduled venue at The Oakland Museum of California in February, 2011. Noted conservators from the Balboa Art Conservation Center have treated the painting in preparation for the Northern California show. "The Arts of the Missions of Northern New Spain" a major international exhibition and catalogue was organized by the Antiguo Colegio de San Ildefonso in Mexico City.
