The Fund Development and Marketing Department of Mission San Luis Rey has a primary goal to increase support and visibility of the "King of the Missions." This includes creating beneficial partnerships with our local business community, organizations, media outlets, donors and other stakeholders.
Why Support Fund Raising Initiatives at Mission San Luis Rey?
Funding is needed to offset operating costs, restoration and preservation projects, and provide cultural, educational, historical and spiritual programs to the community. We consistently seek alternative partnerships to fund these ongoing projects through private foundations, corporations, individuals and our fund-raising events.
As you may imagine, operating and maintaining this historic site is costly. Mission San Luis Rey is registered as a National Historic Landmark, yet we do not receive any funding from the San Diego County Diocese, state or federal government. Renovations to the buildings and property for modern safety standards (seismic retrofitting) and the preservation of the structures require considerable funding... much more than the revenue generated from our Museum tours or the Retreat Center and Cemetery. Mission San Luis Rey is entirely dependent upon generous donors, major fund raising events, corporate partnerships and grants.
