Lecture on Luiseno Indians at Mission San...

Lisbeth Hass, professor of history at University of California, Santa Cruz comes to Old Mission San Luis Rey Nov. 15 to speak on the life and writings of Luiseno Indian, Pablo Tac. Born at Mission San Luis Rey in 180, Tac left for Rome before he was 20 years old, hoping to become a Luiseno priest and return to the Mission.

Hass will talk about the significant changes in Indian lives during the Mission Era, and the history of the Church and Mexican state in California.

The lecture is the third in a series "Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow," sponsored by the Old Mission San Luis Rey Historic Foundation, a group supporting the preservation of the Mission.

The Lecture is 7 pm in teh Mission's Lasuen Room, 4050 MIssion Ave. Oceanside.

Free; donations will go toward seismic retrofit of the Historic Church and buildings.
